Description :
This study examines spatial patterns in the frequency, duration, intensity, and area of impact of Persistent Positive Temperature Anomalies (PPTAs) across the contiguous United States for the period 1950-1995. These patterns are based on a new definition of PPTAs that uses a statistical deviation measure of daily maximum temperatures from its true mean maximum temperature for each calendar date. The major application of the results of this study will be in the agricultural and human health sectors, where PPTA effects are more prominent.
