The article presents the state of the knowledge base in Poland, understood as the essential element of a knowledge-based economy and one of the factors behind regional development. The method employed to identify the structural dimensions to the knowledge base in higher-order principal components analysis. the relationship between regional differences in the base and the level of socio-economic development has been studied. - (BJ)
