The A. begins by stating the fact that the traditional Partition of the Alps, introduced in Italy in 1926, is really obsolete and need an adequate revision in conformity with the actual European geographical literature, while the national mountain subdivisions in force in the Alpine countries are insired by some different rules and area sometimes in contrast with themselves. Therefore he proposes an only new mountain subdivision, the ISMA (the result of a systematic study of the whole alpine orography during several years), in which all mountain groups of the national Alpine subdivision are finally classified with the same rule in a pyramidal hierarchy and which can be considered a new modern reading-key of the complex orography of the Alps. - (NF)
