Description :
This paper discusses the origin and age of some relict periglacial features on the chalkland of Thanet, Kent. It employs particle-size, calcium carbonate, grain surface, heavy-mineral and micromorphological analyses in order to establish sediment provenance and depositional and deformational processes. A chronostratigraphical framework established from optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating allows the palaeoenvironmental record from these periglacial features to be interpreted and correlated with both the event stratigraphy of the Greenland ice-core record and the cryostratigraphy of mainland Europe.
