Description :
In order to detect changes caused by fishery discards on the diet and feeding intensity of demersal fishes, we carried out two successive hauls at 90 meters depth in an area closed to the trawl fishery. Previous to the second haul, we had thrown dead fauna not usually found in the sampling area in natural conditions, as it is the case of blue whiting (Microme sistius poutassou) and the galatheid Munida spp., usually found in deeper waters. A total of 319 stomach contents were analysed from 14 demersal species caught in both hauls. In the second haul, the vacuity percentage of the species studied (26%) diminishes with respect to the first one (39%), at the same time as the feeding intensity of some scavenger species increases: Trachinus draco, Pagellus acarne, Scyliorhinus canicula, Raja montagui, Raja naevus, It is noticeable that blue whiting was found in a tipically planktophageous species, Pagellus bogaraveo Taking into consideration the results, the changes observed in the organization of the species groups as a response to the influence of discards are discussed.
