Description :
The Serra da Estrala is the highest mountain massif in Portagal (40°20'N; 7°35'W; 1993 m asl) and the part of the Iberian Central Cordillera. A significant topoclimatic differenciation inffluenced the present-day landscape dynamics arises from the original imprint that glacial erosion gave to the mountain. The study of the local climates is a major element of an integrated project for the study of landscape units, which has being conducted in the Serra da Estrala. For the first time air temperatures in different sites in the Serra da Estrala were collected simultaneously and systematically. The analysis of single days shows two main types of regime according to topographical conditions : valley floors and plateaux or peaks. The results of this research will be used for the mountain rescue team, which is interested in the extreme values obtained and in the air temperature patterns and models. - (BJ)
