Comprehensive analysis of land use changes at the Tarnobrzeg voivodship in the years 1937-1992 has been performed within the project on the basis of maps and satellite images. Statistical analyses of data contained in the data base revealed spatial extent of different land use categories at particular dates. Crosstabulation has shown the main trends of changes of land use, as well as areas, where changes were negligible and most dramatic, respectively. The development of industry, dating back to the 1930-ies was the main factor causing land use changes. Sulphur mines and industrial infrastructure have replaced agricultural land, forests and even settlements. The results of detailed analysis of the most endangered areas were presented on the maps. - (BJ)
