Description :
Applications of manure and inorganic fertilizer together (integrated nutrient management) may allow sustained higher crop yields and greater economic benefits than does either applied alone. This concept is being tested in three of the major crop rotations in the mid-hills region of Nepal - rice-wheat on irrigated khet land, millet-maize on rain-fed bari land, and upland rice-blackgram on ancient river terraces known as tar land. Using a partial cost-benefit analysis, authors find that applications of fertilizer alone are advantageous in the short run. - (SLD)
