Description :
The research framework of the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) is presented. It is carried out at difference scales with the cooperation of decision-making institutions governing national, regional, and local watersheds because individuals farmers can seldom resolve natural resource management problems in the hillsides. CIAT is developing a suite of tools based on geographic information systems (GIS) and participatory methods for poor, rural stakeholders, especially for Central America. - (SLD)
