Unia Europejjska : dylematy konwergencji regionalnej

L'Union Européenne : dilemmes de la convergence régionale

Auteur :
GRZESZCZAK, J.

Description :
This paper is devoted to the evolution of regional inequalities in the EU. Its goal is to show wether inequalities are rising or falling, that is, if there is a convergence or a divergence of the levels of socio-economic development. The presence - in the long term - of a certain convergence of GDP (PPS) per head has been indicated. However, its speed has been considered to be very slow. A lack of balance between central and peropheral area constitutes the most important spatial inequality in the EU. In all probability, the general picture of regional disparities, especially in a considerably enlarged Union, will keep the characteristics of the centre-periphery model for a long time. - (BJ)
