This article is aimed to emphasize the fact that the relation ship between people and space is much more complex than it is being described nowadays in relation with functional space. This study offers an anlysis of changing cultural landscapes on the examples of different quarters or neighbourhoods in Budapest. As author argues, it would be reasonable to pay more attention to the hardly measurable subjective factors of this relationship since functional space should be shaped increasingly by human requirements of this kind and not merely by material needs. - (JS)
