Aeolian erosional lineations in the Libyan Desert, Dakhla Region, Egypt

Auteur :
BROOKES, I.A.

Description :
This paper presents results of a study of aeolian erosion at the landscape scale in the southern part of the Libyan Desert in south-central Egypt, between 25° and 27°N, 29°and 30°E. Bedrock comprises Paleogene limestone of various lithologies. Climate is hyperarid. Results of the 2 scales of mapping (airphoto and Landsat image), supplemented by field observation north of Dakhla Oasis, further converged on an evolutionary scheme for this yardang field and a link is made between this scheme and the stratigraphy of Quaternary deposits previously established in the oasis depression below.
