Description :
The Irangi Hills in Kondoa District, central Tanzania, are severely degraded by sheet, rill and gully erosion. Here, the AA. describe the spatial and temporal distribution of these colluvial and alluvial deposits in relation to erosional gully development and concentrate particularly on the results of optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating presented in this paper. A model and chronology of erosion history is developed, and possible causes for the different periods of erosion and deposition are discussed in the context of Late Pleistocene and Holocene climatic change and land use impacts.
