Three-dimensional flow structure around small-scale bedforms in a simulated gravel-bed environment

Auteurs :

Description :
This paper presents high-resolution three-dimensional data illustrating the effects of pebble clusters on turbulent flow characteristics in a simulated gravel-bed environment. Past research has tended to focus on only 2 flow components : downstream and vertical. This paper emphasizes in a non-uniform rough environment the significance of lateral flow around pebble clusters and its role in the development of the turbulent flow field. This will enable further refinement of the Buffin-Belanger and Roy (1988) model and will elucidate more explicitely bed-flow interactions in gravel-bed environments.
