Lake sediments, erosion and landscape change during the Holocene in Britain and Ireland

Landscape sensitivity : principles and applications in northern cool temperate environments

Description :
This contribution seeks to highlight the sensitivity of Holocene (Postglacial) lake sediments to the process occurring through time within their catchment areas, especially for the prehistoric and early historic periods. Palaeoenvironmental indicators as pollen, spores, charcoal and sediment inputs are combined with the evidence available from radiocarbon dating. The geographical focus is limited largely to British and Irish sites. A number of the features discussed here, especially radiocarbon reversals, are not limited to these areas but have global significance.
