Note on simulating the size distribution of glacial cirques

Auteur :
DE BLASIO, F.V.

Description :
In this note, simple statistical arguments are discussed in order to reproduce the distribution of cirque size. The regions considered include the English Lake District, Cumbria, and the area of Affric-Cannich in Northwest Scotland. The computer model introduced here is far from being a complete model of cirque development. In particular it lacks the dynamics of cirque erosion and does not consider the interaction between bedrock and the cirque glacier. Rather, it is a kinematic model : certain reasonable assumptions of cirque formation and growth are assumed in order to simulate the final distribution of cirque sizes.
