This paper seeks primarily to analyse the landforms occurring in the west part of Alashan Plateau. As a result of past and present geomorphic processes, the present-day topography is dominated by megadunes, desert plains, lake beds, pediments and desert gorges. As climatic fluctuations since the late Pleistocene have played a significant role in the development of the landscapes, these fluctuations are discussed here as well.
