Auteur :TRIGGER, R.
Description :
Irish Catholics in 19th Montreal encountered a cultural environment very different from that experienced by their compatriots in most cities of eastern North America. They had to overcome numerous obstacles in order to obtain churches and parishes. These struggles were defining events in the formulation of ethnic consciousness. Religious institutions acted as catalysts to define Irish Catholics in relation to the majority. These debates had an important territorial dimension.
