Famine and famine early warning : some contributions by geographers
Auteur :HUTCHINSON, C.F.
Description :
After the famines in sub-Saharan Africa in the 1970s, the international community developed early warning systems of food security emergencies. Much of the theory employed to operationalize the information technology has come from geographers. The theory moves away from ideas of supply failure and toward the understanding of famine as a social phenomenon in which the means of access it have failed. However, the theory does incorporate (environmental) vulnerability assessments that can be mapped prior to emergencies. - (SLD)
