Development of the settlement system in the Ostrawa agglomeration and possibilities of its restructuring

Description :
Large-scale coal-mining shows specific settlement pattern since the 19th century. The typical urban system was remodelled to a mosaic of coal pits, miner colonies (later housing estates) and mettalurgy, heavy engineering, chemical factories. After the year 1989 the Ostrawa agglomeration is looking after new functions and places in the system of settlement. - (MS)
