Description :
During 4 field seasons, MS measurements were obtained from the ground surface at more than 80 sites across the Loess Plateau. The results confirmed that MS varies systematically across the plateau. Here the AA. examine possible sedimentological and climatic controls on this pattern by comparing the MS data with loess grain-size and thickness measurements and with meteorological data from an array of weather stations scattered across the loess region. In addition, they use a simple MS model to analyze the relative effects of dust influx and primary meterological factors in producing the observed MS signal; the AA. conclude that dust dlution and precipitation account for the bulk of the observed variance in the data.
