Description :
The AA. examine variations in planktonic and benthic foraminiferal assemblage, stable isotopes, and organic carbon flux at 2 sites, off eastern Vietnam and off the northwestern Philippines, in the South China Sea (SCS). They synthesize the information to evaluate changes in paleoproductivity and upper water thermal structure in the upwelling regions over the last 220,000 yr and hence to monitor the long-term changes in the activity of summer and winter monsoonal upwelling as well as the short term cyclic variations in their intensities. This will provide insights into the mechanism and relative intensity of the East Asian monsoon and its impact on global climate.
