Episodic emergence in the past 3000 years at the Akkeshi estuary, Hokkaido, northern Japan
Auteur :SAWAI, Y.
Description :
Here the A. reconstructs changes in relative sea level during the past 3000 years at Hokkaido's Akkeshi estuary : rapid emergence interrupted Holocene submergence at least 4 times in the past 3000 years. Each emergence event produced an upward change from estuarine mud to freshwater peat. While the estuarine mud abounds in brackish and marine diatoms, freshwater taxa dominate the peat. This episodic emergence probably contributed to net late Quaternary uplift by negating the kind of submergence that prevailed in the 20th century.
