Description :
Sediment cores collected along a transect in Crooked Pond, southeastern Massachusetts, provide evidence of water-level changes between 15,000 cal yr B.P. and present. The sediment and pollen stratigraphies confirm that dry conditions prevailed when white pine (Pinus strobus) reached its broadest distribution and highest abundances in New England. The site is located in a coastal aquifer and is potentially sensitive to both sea level rise and changes in moisture balance. The AA. have examined the data for the influence of both factors.
