Secondary residences in Southern Europe - a comparison using Spain and Croatia as examples

South eastern European countries on their way to Europe : geographical aspects

Auteurs :
BRITTNER-WIDMANN, A.
HENKEL, R.

Description :
In the last thirty years the Mediterranean sunbelt was the tourist destination with the largest number of visitors within Europe. Associated with the growth of tourism, the demand of real estate has also gone up in this region, where especially secondary residences are used for the purpose of recreation. After the end of the Yugoslavia War, Croatia in 1996 offered foreigners the opportunity to buy real estate. Besides the development of tourism in Spain and Croatia, the paper also shows the development of secondary residences in both countries. - (IfL)
