Demographic resources of Croatia's border areas
South eastern European countries on their way to Europe : geographical aspects

Description :
With regard to the form of the state territory, the border areas of Croatia are mainly peripheral areas in a socio-economic and in a cultural sense. They are predominantly rural regions with small, elderly and less educated populations, defected by depopulation and with small settlements and with prevailing negative demographic and economic characteristics and trends. An unfavourable demographic and educational structure becomes a confining factor of further developments. Activities for a revival of the border areas must be coordinated by institutions on the state, county and local levels. A mutual interest of outside and local investors in local issues would be fruitful. - (IfL)
