Natural heritage, ecotourism and sustainable development : potentials and pitfalls for China
Auteurs :JOB, H.
LI, J.
Description :
Tourism in China has developed into a major economic factor. The currently 5% share of tourism in the national GDP is supposed to more then double in the coming decade. Nature tourism will be an important part of the overall tourism product. How the - very necessary - move towards a more sustainable form of tourism development can be achieved, is hard to imagine from today point of view. In this volume the results of a Sino-german symposium held in Zhangjiajie are presented. The authors described why the introduction of earnestly ecological and social monitoring systems operating on qualified scientific analyses together with a highly flexible GIS-based visitors management is a must. In addition it is explained that only well structured and institutionalised decision-making processes which ensure a fair participation of all stakeholders involved, seem to be able to change the current very destructive course of China's tourism development. - (IfL)
