This study aims at summarising the development of the timberline position in the Hercynian mountains of Central Europe based on detailed interpretation of the previously published data (Vosges, Schwarzwald, Harz) and on newly constructed pollen diagrams from Krkonoše and Hrubý Jeseník profiles.
