Since its institutionalization as an academic discipline, geography has witnessed a progressive move away from materiality, culminating in the cultural turn and in postmodern overemphasis on textuality and representation. Over the last few years, materiality has reappeared on the agendas of sholars from a wide range of disciplines in the Anglo-Saxon world. In particular, cultural geographers have shown an increasing crirical interest in materiality (embodiment, circulation and performance). The A. explores some of the directions suggested by this emerging scholarship.
