Dispersion of rural land in smaller pieces is the main obstacle in modernization as well as in greater profitability of Slovene agriculture. Through the last 30 years more commassations, irrigations or other appropriate measures on farming land in Drava field have been performed in order to prevent the dispersion of farming land into smaller pieces and to increase the yield. The paper talks about the transformation of agriculture in Drava and Ptuj field after the year 1991 and evaluates the impact commassation has on structural as well as productional changes in agriculture. The difference in the size of farms so far are due to social as well as landownership development, various land measures, earlier urbanization of Drava field, the geographical position of settlements with regard to main settlements or employment centres. - (IKR)
