The lower limit of mountain permafrost in the Russian Altai Mountains

Description :
The AA. determined the lower limit of permafrost based on the occurrence and distribution of permafrost-indicator features such as active and inactive rock glaciers, pingos and ice-wedge polygons, during fieldwork in August 2003, 2004 and 2005. In the Akkol and Taldura valleys, many rock glaciers flow into the larch forest zone. To estimate the age of the rock glaciers, the AA. sampled tree remnants in the rock glacier fronts and obtained their C 14 ages.
