A mobile measurement method has been tested to obtain a representative high resolution of near surface CO2 concentration for urban types of land utilization. The investigation had been conducted in the cities of Essen and Krefeld (both North Rhine Westphalia). The evaluation of 50 mobile measurements within the investigation area at distinct times between 2002 and 2005 has shown that the urban CO2 mixing ration cannot only be represented temporarily but also spatially. The method of mobile measuring offered statistically valid results which supply a recurring pattern of carbon dioxide distribution. These recurring CO2 patterns are presented in the article ; they can be viewed as a basic component of mobile air quality measurements. - (IFL)
