Although Scotland has a peripheral location on the fringe of Europe, it has been emerging for years as one of the burgeoning bio-tech locations. This is due to a combination of different factors such as the enormous political, particularly financial support given it, the fact that it has historically been amassing local expertise in researching human medicine and agricultural engineering, or the attitude people have to biotechnology there. Today, Scotland is applying a cluster-based network strategy in a bid to compensate for the still existing obstacles to growth. - (IFL)
