Large events such as national or world exhibitions have a very specific relationship with the region in which they are located. The significance that is attributed to the cultural input in this context is not easily conceivable. Nevertheless the analysis of the spatial relationship of such large events is instructive : on the one hand they always constitute a major trial of strength for the host region. On the other hand events that have large-scale and formative impacts are in demand in the age of the Zwischenstadt. Both aspects can be illustrated impressively by taking the Swiss Expo 02 as an example. - (IFL)
