Description :
This paper demonstrates the use of stereophotogrammetry on archival aerial photographs, with the application to the study of available sediment volume in torrents. First, a topographic methodology to estimate the potential sediment volume stored in the channel is presented. This sampling method was optimized with respect to the specific debris-flow torrent morphology. Secondly, measurements were made on the Manival torrent at 12 different dates from 1963 to 2000. Thirdly, partial sediment budgets and erosion-rate estimates for the same time period in the Manival torrent are discussed.
