Description :
At about 1000 m above sea level in the Vallombrosa Forest, northern Apennines, a dense pan that meets the diagnostic criteria for fragipans is discontinuously distributed. The aim of this work is to investigate the nature of the fragipan and to find soil features that may lead to formulate an hypothesis for its formation.
