Description :
This paper discusses how the residents in different regions in the upper Dadu River located at the southeast edge of the Tibetan Plateau understood and responded to environmental degradation. The study is based on comparative field surveys in 3 villages chosen in the valley region, from mountainside region, and from the mountain and plateau region. Long-term human-land interactions have formed diverse livelihood patterns in different regions. In the mountainside region, residents live on agropastoralism, with less labors being transferred in the secondary and tertiary industries.
