This paper examines the state of Lake Balaton during the last few years in relation to natural precipitation and natural loss of water content. The lake evolved 6-8 thousand years ago, therefore it is relatively young geological and limnological formation. For the first seven thousand years its water balance was exclusively affected by natural conditions, and human intervention took place in the last one thousand year. Recent years the water level of the lake has been fluctuating heavily according to the changing annual amount of precipitation. - (JS)
