Agrarian towns are dominant elements of the settlement system on the Great Hungarian Plain. In this study, A. discusses the main features of the so-called Great Plain development paths which resulted a settlement system completely different from other parts of Hungary, due to the peculiarities of the economic and social development of the region. In the analysis early works of Mendöl and other well-known settlement geographers are reviewed and extended. - (JS)
