Sediment storage, sea level, and sediment delivery to the ocean by coastal plain rivers

Auteurs :
PHILLIPS, J.D.
SLATTERY, M.C.

Description :
The AA. review the factors contributing to low sediment output in coastal plain rivers and complicating efforts to determine sediment yield to the coast, with particular emphasis on the deceptively simple problem of defining the mouth or outlet of the river. They also seek to explore the role of transport capacity (in addition to accommodation space) in alluvial storage and buffering, with particular emphasis on channel slope. This work is based largely on a review of the literature and on a reinterpretation of data from their own previous and ongoing work.
