Description :
Cropp Basin is an example of the type of landscape occuring adjacent to an active compressional plate boundary producing mountains which form a barrier to the prevailing atmospheric circulation. Uplift, rainfall and erosion are extreme. The interaction of these processes has produced an erosional landscape with extremely steep slopes, V-shaped valleys, and intensely dissected topography. The extreme rainfall causes rapid erosion but also facilitates vegetation growth. Soils are removed from steep slopes by episodic and continuous erosional processes, generally within 500 to 1 000 years.
