Vertical movement of isolated oceanic islands at plate margins : evidence from emergent reefs in Tonga (Pacific Ocean), Cayman Islands (Caribbean Sea) and Christmas Island (Indian Ocean) in The geomorphology of plate boundaries and active continental margins.

Auteur :
WOODROFFE, C. D.

Description :
This paper examines the evidence for vertical movement of oceanic islands at three plate margin locations. Each is located adjacent to a deep ocean trench, but represents a different plate margin setting from a different ocean. For each of the areas elevation of Tertiary reefal limestone indicates past uplift and/or differential movement of islands within the group. Evidence for continuity of vertical movements is examined, particularly elevation of emergent reefs of Last Interglacial age.
