Deep weathering patterns in north-east Scotland and their geomorphological significance

Auteur :
HALL, A. M.

Description :
Deep chemical weathering of Neogene and early Pleistocene age occurs extensively in northeast Scotland. Saprolite mineralogy indicates development under temperate environments yet, despite a moderate degree of alteration, depths of weathering locally exceed 50 m. The geomorphological significance of the weathering patterns is discussed for regional relief development and for models of landscape evolution in other glaciated areas.
