Soils or sediments sometime can present banded precipitations of minerals. It is assumed that such patterns can be produced in specific freezing conditions. Such banded patterns could be explained by the theoretical properties of crystallizing water in a moving freezing front throughout a saline media. Attempts to give some explanations of the initiation fo such banded patterns and to define the favourable conditions of occurrence are briefly suggested here.
