The measured values presented in the paper indicate that the soil biological activity must not be neglected even at soil temperatures below the freezing-point. At low temperatures, too, a marked dependency was found to exist between soil temperature and CO exhalation which can be quantified with high statistical significance. Equally, the supply of plant substance markedly increases the biological activity. (HL).
