Description :
Fifteen hundred sooty albatrosses were ringed since 1966 at the Ile de la Possession, Crozet Archipelago, Southern Indian Ocean, and a detailed ecological and behavioural study of this population has been carried out from 1978 to 1982. The breeding biology of the species is described. The seasonal distribution and demographic structure of the Possession Island's population is described. As an extreme K-strategist, the Sooty Albatross appears to be remarkably adapted to exploit the pelagic resources of the sub-antarctic Indian Ocean.
