Description :
A coordinating conference of the heads of geographic institutions of the Soviet Union, the second of its kind (they first met in 1982), was convened May 27 to 31, 1984 in Klaipeda, Lithuanian SSR. The first conference had approved a coordination plan and adopted decisions that forstered the subsequent development of geography as a research discipline in the Soviet Union. The present conference is intended to review the implementation of the coordination plan thus far and to determine the principal research areas for the 12-th five-years plan (1986-1990).
