This special issue is devoted to a Symposium held at Toyama in 1981 which was focused on three major themes: 1. results obtained by the project IGCP n 61 in Japan| 2. the position of sea level around the Japanese islands during the maximum of the last glacial age| and 3. humidity changes at the Japan Sea side of Japan in Postglacial Times.
