After a review of the published sea-level data (some 800 radiocarbon dated samples), the author explores approaches which may be used to provide reliable correlation between areas. The use of a rigorous terminology is essential to avoid many problems in comparing different author's work. In conclusion a re-evaluation of much of the existing data is considered necessary to evaluate processes and past altitudes of sea level with greater precision. (P. A. Pirazzoli).
