Of the present 761 nature reserves in the German Democratic Republic 148 existed up to 1945. By 1961 were added, by 1971 158 and by 1983 another 154. These figures, together with the necessary cancellations of nature conservation areas illustrate the dynamic character of the network of nature reserves due to natural and, above all, to anthropogenously influenced factors as well as to changes in attitude concerning the character of nature conservation areas.
